Mike PACHECO

TODAY

This upcoming college basketball season (2025-2026) will mark my 20th covering Winthrop Basketball. Of my three current employers, that is the "shortest" tenure. The upcoming NFL season will mark my 25th year as a member of the Carolina Panthers Radio Network co-hosting the Network Postgame Show. I am currently in my 20th season, 21st year with the Charlotte Knights (thanks COVID), Triple-A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.

HOW DID I GET HERE? (UP TO TODAY)

It all started with an internship at WHDH Radio in Boston, today's WEEI, back in January of 1991. They literally taught me the nuts and bolts of producing and engineering radio broadcasts. That led me to sports when I was promoted to produce Boston College Football and Basketball in the early 1990's. From there, the education shifted to producing and engineering sports. I was promoted again to produce the Red Sox Radio Network Broadcasts both at Fenway Park and on the road.

From Boston, the next step was the Big Apple where I transitioned to news at ABC News Radio in a variety of roles beginning with working on the news desk, becoming a news writer and later program and operations manager for a nationally syndicated ESPN Radio/ABC Radio Sports Radio Show.

Next stop was Charlotte, NC where I was executive producer at start-up WFNZ Radio later transitioning into the Director of Marketing role.

By then, I had drifted away from what I knew was my true love in broadcasting, live play by play sports. So in 2001, I earned my first on air role as play by play man for the Kannapolis Intimidators, Single-A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. After that first season, I joined the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. That led to moving up to Triple-A in 2005 with the Charlotte Knights. Winthrop came a year later in 2006.

Since 2001, I have picked up various part-time gigs over the years with Metro Networks anchoring sports radio updates (2001-2006), studio hosting for Boston College/IMG Sports Network (2005-2013), fill-in anchoring sports at WCCB-TV, hosting a radio show at ESPN 730 (2010-2013), sports producing for NBC News Channel (2013-2017) and co-host/fill-in hosting at WFNZ Radio (2015-2020).

Skills

Story telling, play by play announcing, talk show hosting, sports anchoring, reporting, producing/directing live events, on-site producing/audio engineering, audio production, commercial production, script writing, grilling/smoking meats, content creating for social media, and public speaking.

Education

I graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, Class of 1991, with a B.A. in Political Science.
